Shamanic Drums
Frame drums have a rich history, providing the heartbeat of ceremonies around the world for tens of thousands of years. They are generally considered the first type of drum made and there are many styles of drums and methods of playing in pre-historical, historical and contemporary cultures.
Each drum’s beat unites the drummer’s spirit with all the cosmos. Throughout the universe, all energy is vibrational. A drum’s beat can find, match, or complement any vibration encountered. The voice of the earth is a pulse within us. To sit peacefully and drum allows us to tap that pulse and hear what Mother Earth is telling us. To sit in a group and drum with others allows us to celebrate the rhythms that bind our souls and reality together. To drum is to create a sacred space, and every drum has a unique voice for the song.
Two excellent sources for deeper understanding are “The Shamanic Drum” by Michael Drake, and “When Drummers Were Women” by Layne Redmond.
